Nature feeds my creativity and fantasies and in return for this gift I wish to acknowledge Mother Nature and our planet by using sustainable methods – in gratitude and with humility for all that nature has given and continues to give. What feeds me, I want to feed, it is a circle in which I let my creativity and fantasy go. Vince Reece Hale
Vince is a young fashion designer from Amsterdam with passion and love for his profession. His life is all about new discoveries, collaborations, growth, openness and experiments. Vince examines the current problems within the industry and is committed to do as much as possible for a more promising and naturepositive future.
For his inspirations Vince draws on his love of nature, especially flowers. “I love all the flowers, I love the way they smell, I love their different and varied shapes, their silhouettes, forms, colours and their soft and pastel tints, as well as their deep and rich shades and contrasts. They give me so much energy and they affect me emotionally. This surge of emotional energy translates in my mind into inspirational ideas which I work into the fabrics that I use – enabling me to find unique and original methods when I dye and treat my fabrics.” Vince says.
A Special Collaboration for Fashion in Helsinki
For the special collaboration project with Veerkracht Collective, Vince has chosen FIRE, which is the element Vince associates the most with climate change. The Earth is warming fast and climate change has increased the chance of extreme forest fires by at least 30 percent. Globally, the earth is becoming 1.2 degrees warmer than a hundred years ago. Forest fires release large amounts of CO2 contributing enormously to climate change and global warming. We cannot live without our forests. They provide both oxygen and rain, they offer a home to unique trees, plants, flowers, animals, insects and of course people. They therefore play an important role in combating climate change. Without the rain forests there would be no life.
Fire is also involved in the clothing industry.
Every year, 35 million tons of clothes go into incinerators and landfills
because clothing brands don’t wish to lose their market value or status by selling the clothes for less. This is a massive waste of raw materials and monumentally bad for the environment. The overproduction of fabrics and clothing is a major global problem and has serious consequences.
Vince wanted to weave the translation of these two problems into his designs by means of a burned surface treatment. It exudes and radiates devastation that reflects on the damage caused to our environment and nature. For these designs it was decided to work with leftover denim fabric from pre-consumer waste. The seams that run randomly through the garments are created by sewing discarded pieces of fabric back together when cutting the patterns during production, resulting in a totally new fabric.
Every piece of clothing contains a unique flower to embrace the beauty of nature.
