across borders
The Veerkracht sustainable platform is working in creative dialogue and collaboration between Europe’s leading denim hubs in Amsterdam, London, and other European cities.
The team includes Finnish and British designers and artists alongside young Dutch denim talents working closely with the Finnish curator Jani Kaila and Dutch denim sustainability specialist Maarten Wentholt.
Denim is one of the most widely used fashion fabrics, and when traditionally produced consumes huge amounts of water and harmful chemicals. Veerkracht presents solutions developed with industrial companies for the production of nature positive denim using less water, energy, and harmful chemicals as well as undertaking practical experiments and statements of the participants relating to natural dyeing techniques and sustainable treatments, waste, biodegradability and upcycling.
The team are actively experimenting in biospheric FashionLabs which include four biodiversities set up in Sahara, Veneto, Amsterdam and TurkuArchipelago.
Participants are working with denim, treated with soil and water enzymes and other regenerative natural forces. Special results have also been achieved with a natural rusting process.
The Veerkracht Collective include Enzo Faber, Mickey Gibbons, Jani Kaila, Luna van Kessel, Katja Kiviranta, Judith Lyons, Vince Reece-Hale, Florian Regtien, Josien Verwoerd and Maarten Wentholt.
An innovative sustainable industrial collaboration with environmentally friendly and certified natural mineral pigments has taken place at Zaitexfashion Laboratories in Veneto, Italy. The responsibly developed sustainable raw denim qualities are Re-Gen from Candiani Denim Mills, Rebirth and Rebirth Gold from Bossa Denim Mills and DryIndigo from Tejidos Royo Mills.
